General Voice Lesson Information

Now accepting new voice students!

Overview

Students will learn proper breathing habits and vocal technique as well as music reading, sight-singing, and ear training. In addition, he or she will build a repertoire of music that is not only sung, but coached to performance level.  The goal is to keep students, healthy, happy, and of course interested in the art!

Materials

Sheet Music:

Music will be chosen by both the student and instructor based upon skill level, age-appropriateness, and general likeability. From experience, I know people are more inclined to stick with study if they are working on what they enjoy.  Students are welcome to bring in pieces they would like to learn and to also choose from my collection.  If there is a particular piece that I do not have, we will search the internet or libraries.  If we must but it, you are responsible for the full cost.  I suggest getting a free account on MusicNotes.com as this is a good resource for music.  If you think you will be ordering a lot of music from this website, a membership is a good investment.

Recordings:

Most sheet music bought on MusicNotes.com comes with a download of the accompaniment with the website’s music player.  I also have a number of recordings and the internet is a wonderful resource of rehearsal tracks. If we cannot get a sound file or link of the song we are working on, a professional piano accompaniment will be recorded for you at the price of $15.00 per song.

Lessons

Break Down:

Each lesson is divided into 4 sections: Check-in, warm-up, sight-singing/skill, and repertoire. This is subject to change based on the student’s needs and goals.

Scheduling:

Lessons are made on a weekly, bi-weekly, or three week rotation. Due to busy schedules for both students and instructor, no one has a set night or time for lessons. If you need to change your time or day, contact Alyssa at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to attend a lesson without notification will result in a full charge. In any case, I prefer rescheduling to canceling.

Additional Policies

Students studying with me will be held to strict guidelines outside of the studio.  Students under the age of 18 are expected to maintain good grades in school and participate in clubs and activities, especially those that will aid in the development of their singing ability.

Students are also required to abide by the laws regarding alcohol and drug use. Smoking of any kind is detrimental to the singing voice and will not be tolerated. If I become aware of this illegal activity, you will be dismissed from lessons until the behavior is changed.  By becoming one of my students, you are a reflection of me and I cannot afford to have working relations with anyone who does not conduct themselves in a responsible manner.

As always, if you have any other questions, please let me know and I will be happy to help.
